Alright, responded to some messages on the team Discord. It’s so cool to see it starting to take form as it all comes together. I think getting the music into the demo might be a good next step.

9:13

Okay, I didn’t do any dev yet. Flavian came online and had a lot of catchup and a lot of questions. He’s super engaged and eager to produce a bunch of content. I’m stoked!

Also very cool to see he and Alysan collaborating now. He needs details like what clothes the characters are wearing and that would depend on the year which, I assumed was modern times but Alysan is the one with the answer there.

15:27

Lots more back and forth with Flavian. There was also an exciting moment where Flavian and Alysan were discussing the characters and setting and the project had its own life for a little while, beyond my efforts. Have I ever seen that before?

It’s a little scary because I lose some control there but also very exciting to see what direction it’ll go. I guess there’s been some of that working with others already but even moreso when the collaboration between the others on the team takes off.

Very cool.

I did manage to get a MusicManager class working. I incorporated Tim’s exploration music. Then when the violent NPC (now known as “Dina”) is encountered, the chase music kicks in. As the chase continues and you get further away from Dina the chase music drops off and eventually fades out completely when she despawns.

Still some room for improvement and I’m sure I’m going to need a state machine for that as well but I’m hyped. It’s pretty awesome with music.

Can’t even imagine how it’s gonna be with music and artwork.

As Alysan does more writing she’s filling out more details in the story. That’s been cool to watch. Flavian has shared some preliminary character sketches for Prima and Dina as well.

My next goal is to get Dialogic setup and embedded into the NPC rooms. I hope it does what I need… I’m not sure I’ll be going with the character portraits idea. I think the scene is more important here because showing what these mad NPCs are doing is pretty crucial.

16:58

Okay, let’s do this.

18:27

Here’s where I’m at so far:

Dialogic is pretty nice.

I can change the background from the editor. And if I really wanted to I could do more advanced stuff by triggering callbacks or sending signals. Like, I could put a Signal node in the timeline which could trigger an animation of, say, the NPC sobbing.

Seems like it can do much more than that, even, but this is pretty great for now.

19:55

Okay, and I figured out how to have different secret tunnels direct the player to different NPC interactions. Wute. Wish I could share today’s work since it incorporates the team’s music and writings but Itch.io is down for some reason. Scream Jam? There were like 5k registrants last I saw.

Maybe later. Gotta duck out for a bit.
